Madurai Chittirai Thiruvizha

A city which is also known as  A Sleepless City because you can see the load man's,  formers, wholesalers of fruits and vegetables are in the centre  of the city and that is Madurai. 

An added special, Madurai is one of the city that develop our Tamizh Language using union. The Proverb "Sangam vaitthu Tamizh Valartha Maa-Madurai" ( சங்கம் வைத்து தமிழ் வளர்த்தமாமதுரை)

The Tamizh's  prestigious  sports  "Jallikattu"(ஜல்லிக்கட்டு)  is famous in the name of Alangaanallore Jallikattu during Pongal was celebrated joyfully. Like this many local festivals are there in Madurai. One among them is Chittirai Thiruvizha (சித்திரைத்திருவிழா). 

Note: This video is taken during the Chitirai Thiruvizha held in Madurai 2019. The video captured the N no of people who showed the love towards this local festival. This video captured through mobile camera.

This  Chittirai Thiruvizha is held once in a year. This festival is celebrated in remembrance of incidents happened between Meenakshi Amman , Sundareshwarar and Azhagar.

Chittirai Thiruvizha is a total event of 12 to 14 days. In this 12 to 14 days. The main events are தேர் உலா, Veedhi Uzha,  Meenakshi Sundareshwarar Thirukkalyanam (Marriage), Ethirsevai,  Azhagar Aarril Irangutal (அழகர் ஆற்றில் இறங்கும் நிகழ்ச்சி)  

Why Azhagar goes to Vaigai River? 

Because  Meenakshi Sundareshwarar marriage held before the arrival of Azhagar who is the brother of Meenakshi . This message was passed to Azhagar in his half way to marriage. So,  this message made Azhagar very angry which is not good normal human beings. 

So,  Azhagar went into the Vaigai River to reduce his anger on everyone. This makes him cool and before he return back to his place Azhagar Kovil (which situated 17kms from Madurai) , he Cured the cursed (Saaba Vimosanam - சாபவிமோக்சனம்) monsters in the Vaigai River Shore. 

In remembrance of this incidents, this Chittirai Festival was organized every year in the Tamil Month Chittirai and in English months either April or May. For this festival, the people who are in Madurai, TamilNadu, North India and Foriegners also come to see this festival and enjoyed  a lot.
